Lift up the downcast.

Lift up the downcast.

So many in churches are discouraged, downcast, overwhelmed, and hurting for so many different reasons.  Jesus sent us the comforter and we know it is to comfort us when we need it but, He was also sent that He may comfort others through us.  Ps. 94:19 In the multitude of  my thoughts, O Lord, thy comforts have comforted my soul.

I believe we lack teaching to the Body of Christ in how to comfort other people.  Often it just means listening to their hurt and always to pray for them to heal.  We need to know the scriptures that fit their circumstances and the promises of God for them to stand on in faith.  Teach them that when they are comforted that they need to go and do as Moses did: when Moses was in Pharaoh's court, and in great preferment, standing in the presence of the king, he went out to visit his brethren, and to comfort them under their burdens: "I will see said he how it fares with my brethren under their burdens." Has the Lord spoken peace and comfort to your soul, and do you now stand in the presence of the King of kings, having His face shining on you, with your comforts all restored to you? Now go out and find your brethren that are laboring under burdens and with the same comfort as you have been comforted yourself, comfort them.

Romans 14:19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things where with one may edify another.  IThess. 5:11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also you do.

The word edify means to instruct and improve especially in knowledge, to uplift, and encourage.

So may we learn the desperate need to encourage ourselves in the Lord and be comforted by the comforter so that we can go and encourage the Brethren in the things of the Lord.
