Feelings

Think about it! II Tim 1:6-7 Therefore I
remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of
my hands. 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power
and of love and of a sound mind.
Miserable Christians? Of course
there should not be such a thing but its fact that there are some and it is our
duty to deal with this condition. We don’t justify a Christian being
depressed and miserable but we recognize the fact.
This problem is “feelings”. We
need to know how to handle our feelings & emotions. Nervous people
tend to be easily depressed. Evidently Timothy had times of struggle with
this.
Our feelings are are variable – mind
and will should work together for the will of God. You can’t create how
you feel. Temperament, physical condition, and the influence of other people
(good or bad) all come into play regarding our feelings. There is danger
in allowing our feelings to rule. For example – we all know people who say
whatever it is they are thinking and feeling – it can lead to
self-righteousness attitudes trampling over the feelings of others. Don’t
submit to your feelings – submit to God!
The cure:
Be sure your not in sin and that’s why you feel
miserable.
Don’t concentrate on how you feel.
Realize there is a complete difference in “feeling”
happy and being happy.
We are commanded to rejoice.
Why? Because of what we KNOW not because of what we feel – feelings come and
go.
Paul says to Timothy to STIR UP the
gift. STIR UP your faith. We aren’t saved by feelings . Never
should feelings be in control but our faith in God is what should be in
control. Talking to yourself about the Word stirs up the gift.
Taking eyes off self and onto the Lord – He is where you find happiness and the
stirring up of your faith in Him will result in the “feeling” of joy following
this knowledge.
Matt 6:33 But seek first the kingdom
of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
All what things? Quite simply
put – every single thing that you need.
