Weary In Well Doing

Think about it! Isa 61:1-2; Gal 6:9 And let us
not become weary in well doing; for in due season we shall reap, if we faint
not.
Not tired of the work, tired in the
work. Brings a spirit of resignation, apathy (putting up with it), no hope
but won’t quit just operates out of duty not out of hope.
Very dangerous in any level of
life. Great temptations come during this time. Doing something for
God in a formal spirit and as a mere duty. Going on but wearily trudging
along instead of walking as we ought to walk. Don’t listen to the voices that
come to you from others and yourself saying to give up, give way, or give in.
I’m weary, I’m tired, the thing is
too much for me. Don’t listen! You must say to yourself: Whatever happens
I am going on. You do not give in or give way. Another dangerous temptation
that comes along when we become weary and tired is that we will resort to
artificial stimulants – the world.
People in church will form new
programs trying to bring the excitement back again. Same reason people
start drinking is to help arouse a new excitement in their life. This
drains all natural energy and he becomes exhausted so he needs more and more of
the artificial stimulant.
What can we do?
Self examination. Why am I weary? What is the
cause of my weariness? You can’t treat the condition until you
diagnose it. II Cor 13:5. Are you overworked? Elijah fell into
spiritual depression – he was overworked and needed sleep, food, and
rest. God gave him all. Are you doing spiritual work out of
carnal energy? Has the spiritual work become a burden? Do you do it for
the excitement of the activity? We have been doing all that we do to
satisfy self so we can say “How wonderful you are and how much you
do”. Self says we are important. Self likes to see results. If
we are working for self then we will end in weariness and depression.
Examine your whole attitude towards life, and the thing
you are doing, and discover how you feel about the Christian life.
Why did you come into it, what is it, and so on? Great principles in this
teaching and great promises to us and we must understand them if we are to
be cured!
